Can I Get A Job In Canada?

It is a common notion for people to ask, “Can you help me get a job offer in Canada?”

We wish we could give a simple ‘yes’ as the answer but in reality, it is not. If getting a job were so easy then everybody would do it. Getting a job is more in the hands of the Canadian employer rather than the applicant who is looking for a job. So, ideally, a suitable way to go about it is applying for the Express entry program to attain your PR first and start looking for a job.

Getting a Closed Work Permit could be an expensive procedure as the Canadian employer has to first try everything that he/she can to employ a citizen or a permanent resident in Canada for the job. Only when the employer has exhausted all options does he apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment. A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker.

If the LMIA is positive, then it means that there is a requirement for a foreign national and that no Canadian worker has been able to successfully obtain the same job. The Employer applies for an LMIA with the Canadian Government (ESDC). Once the employer gets the LMIA, then the foreign national can apply for a work permit. To apply for a work permit, he/she needs:

Job offer letter

Contract
LMIA number
There are 2 types of work permits.
Openwork permit
Employer specific or closed work permit

An open work permit allows a worker to be employed by any the employer in Canada except those that have been listed as ineligible i.e. employers who fail to comply with the norms.

An employer-specific or closed work permit is one where you are allowed to work in Canada according to the conditions on your work permit like the name of the employer, the duration of your employment and the location if applicable. The employer must obtain the LMIA before you can apply for a closed work permit.

Every applicant must make sure that they fulfil the eligibility requirements when applying for the work permit. Contact qualified professionals today.
